Lay Ministers

At St. Joseph Calasanctius Church, there are many opportunities to become involved in the celebration of Holy Mass. It is encouraged that all of our parishioners will become a part of one or more of these ministries:
Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion
  • Is trained to distribute Holy Communion within the celebration of Holy Mass
  • Is trained to administer Communion to the Sick
  • Provides this ministry to the homebound in their residences as well as to the Austinburg Rehabilitation Center and Jefferson Healthcare Center.
Lectors
  • Is trained to proclaim the Word of God
  • Is included in weekday as well as Sunday celebrations of Holy Mass
  • Is instituted to proclaim the readings from Sacred Scripture with the exception of the Gospel
  • May also announce the intentions for the Universal Prayer in the absence of the Deacon

Greeters

  • Welcome parishioners to the celebration of Holy Mass on Sunday mornings
  • Distribute bulletins
  • Direct parishioners and visitors to different areas of the Church and Hall

 

Altar Servers
  • Receives training about how to assist the pastor during the celebration of Holy Mass
  • Is placed on a rotation schedule
  • May be an adult or child
  • Contacts a replacement when unable to serve as scheduled
  • Arrives 15 minutes prior to the start of Holy Mass


Ushers
  • Take up the collection at Mass
  • Help to direct visitors to open seating
  • Direct parishioners and visitors to different areas of the Church and Hall
