Lay Ministers
At St. Joseph Calasanctius Church, there are many opportunities to become involved in the celebration of Holy Mass. It is encouraged that all of our parishioners will become a part of one or more of these ministries:
Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion
- Is trained to distribute Holy Communion within the celebration of Holy Mass
- Is trained to administer Communion to the Sick
- Provides this ministry to the homebound in their residences as well as to the Austinburg Rehabilitation Center and Jefferson Healthcare Center.
Lectors
- Is trained to proclaim the Word of God
- Is included in weekday as well as Sunday celebrations of Holy Mass
- Is instituted to proclaim the readings from Sacred Scripture with the exception of the Gospel
- May also announce the intentions for the Universal Prayer in the absence of the Deacon
Greeters
- Welcome parishioners to the celebration of Holy Mass on Sunday mornings
- Distribute bulletins
- Direct parishioners and visitors to different areas of the Church and Hall
Altar Servers
- Receives training about how to assist the pastor during the celebration of Holy Mass
- Is placed on a rotation schedule
- May be an adult or child
- Contacts a replacement when unable to serve as scheduled
- Arrives 15 minutes prior to the start of Holy Mass
Ushers
- Take up the collection at Mass
- Help to direct visitors to open seating
- Direct parishioners and visitors to different areas of the Church and Hall
